Boating in the modern period was more left to the rich, military, or for bussiness purposes. Forms of transpertation were limited in the modern time period. Thus is why many of the richest people owned one; the boats had technology that was up to date for the time, were stylish, and seemed to be the most efficent for international travel at the time. Boating in the modern time period was veiwed more as an objective, with less concrete disigns than those boats of the postmodern time frame.
With the postmodern time period being present, I think its safe to say that everyone can argee and say that boating and the veiws or purpose of boating have changed drasticly. For example, boating here in the postmodern era is more of a lesire to more people than ever before. Boats are used for all differnt ways of making a living. There is professonial water activities, such as wakeboarding, wakeskating, fishing, boat racing, and diving. These activities are also common to do just for satifaction or enjoyment. All of which would never be acceptable in the postmodern era. The designs of boats in the postmodern era incorperated a more concrete understanding of the tecnology used in small water craft as well as big vessels. For instant, haul design consumed on fishing boats is one of the most advandced parts of technology in the boating industry. Where something like this to be owned by a middle class person would of been puposterous in the modern era, yet is acceptable in the postmodern era and is very common.
